A survey of Chinese medicine and its application in massage, this course introduces traditional meridians, their functions and methods for treatment, and explores how acupressure can be integrated into massage sessions. Concepts such as yin and yang, Qi, and the five phases are also presented. Massage II is a prerequisite.

In these introductory, hands-on classes, students palpate bony landmarks and the origins and insertions of muscles, learn specific muscle actions and joint movements, and begin to understand and use anatomical terminology. Intro to Palpation-Upper and Lower Body share a required textbook.  You must successfully complete Intro to Palpation - Upper Body before taking this class.

This course introduces students to the basic principles of kinesiology, the mechanics of human movement. Students will study specific muscle actions and coordinated movements with emphasis on the lower body. Kinesiology course need not be taken in order. Students must successfuly complete Introduction to Palpation-Upper and Lower before taking this class. Required textbook.

This is the first class in fulfilling massage licensing requirements and explores the history and principles of massage. Practical application of massage techniques is emphasized. Students will learn the five basic strokes, practitioner preparation techniques, body awareness and self-care, and treatment procedures. Anatomical terms and location of major muscles and bones will be considered. Attendance at the first class is mandatory. Bring sheets to first class.
