We’ll visit the Schnitzer Museum of Art for a curator-guided tour of three exciting exhibits at the University of Oregon’s art museum before we lunch on our own at the museum’s café. Our visit will focus on an exhibit of contemporary Native American art, "Conversations in the Round House: Routes, Roads and Remembrances" that complements the university’s Common Reading program of the book, "The Round House" by Louise Erdrich. Other exhibits on our tour include "Barbara MacCallum: Appropriating Science," a unique sculpture installation made from the research papers of MacCallum’s husband, and "The Barberini Tapestries: Woven Monuments of Baroque Rome," a collection of Roman Baroque tapestries from the 17th century. After feeding our artistic side, we’ll lunch at the museum’s Marché Café which features soups, salads and sandwiches. Following lunch, students have the opportunity to explore the museum at their own leisure.

Join Provisions Market Hall cheesemonger and resident specialty-food expert Sam Rollins to explore the world of artisan cheeses. France offers almost too many varieties to list, but we’ll get a taste — literally — of some of the best known (Brie, Camembert, Comté, Ossau Iraty, Epoisses, Fourme d’ambert and Roquefort) and learn about the rich traditions and centuries of regionally focused cheesemaking. After the class, you are free to enjoy an early dinner on your own (if you still have room!) at the Market Hall or any of the other dining options available at the 5th Street Market and perhaps get a bit of shopping in before we head home.
