Beginning Level. Focus is on traditional & digital etching techniques such as aquatint, drypoint and engraving, or woodcut/linocut relief techniques. Explore the techniques in the chosen printmaking medium and design and create original edition prints. Includes lectures, demonstrations, and the studio experience, as well as the aesthetics and history of printmaking. A blended class with non-credit and credit students. Limited to six non-credit students. Registration deadline March 29. Materials needed: Tracing paper roll or pad; Sharpies, black; White acrylic paint and a small brush (for sketching on proofs); Apron or smock; Gloves (nitrile or latex or dishwashing gloves); Inexpensive portfolio to protect and carry your prints (or make one from cardboard and duct tape); An art box or a fishing tackle box to house your supplies (or sturdy shoe box); One large box of baby wipes; One roll of paper towels; Etching needle / curved burnisher tool; Scraper 2” blade; Linoleum carving tool set.
